Meeting in person
First dates are very exciting and we want you to enjoy them. Following a few guidelines will help you have a great time while being safe.
Get to know the person before meeting
While it can be tempting to meet up very quickly, it is always best spending some time getting to know the person from the safety of the Skooba app. This gives you some time to get an idea of the person you are talking to. We don’t conduct criminal background checks on our users so please be careful.
Always meet in public
Always meet in a busy public place where there are other people, never at a remote or private location and not at your or their home.
Tell a friend or family member of your meeting
Tell a friend or family member where you are going, who you are meeting and when they can expect you to return. Take your phone with you.
Be in charge of your own transportation
Ensure you have control of your own transportation, take a licensed taxi or use busy public transport. Do not pick up a date using your vehicle or be picked up by a date in theirs, this is especially important on the first meeting.
Alcohol and drugs
Do not drink excessively or take drugs prior to and on dates. Excessive use of alcohol and substance abuse impairs your judgement. Do not leave drinks unattended.
Health and Safety
Skooba wants you to have fun and be safe, with this in mind a few tips on sexual health are detailed below.
Ensure you protect yourself. Condoms can significantly reduce the risk of contracting or passing on sexual diseases such as HIV. Come prepared and be safe.
Be honest and open
If you do have a STD be honest and open about this. If you have questions for your partner before sexual activity, do not be afraid to ask whatever you want to, this is entirely normal and safe practice.
Know your status
If you are sexually active, regular testing is advisable to protect your own health and the health of your sexual partners. Some STDs do not exhibit symptoms and as such routine testing is advisable. Please contact your doctor for advice on how to arrange testing at your local clinic.
